Center hill Lake Tennessee

Fishing at Center Hill Lake

Fishing on Center Hill Lake is one of the biggest draws to this Middle Tennessee destination, offering year-round opportunities across more than 18,000 acres of clear, deep water. Known for its scenic shoreline, rock bluffs, and hidden coves, the lake provides an ideal setting for both casual anglers and experienced fishermen.

Center Hill Lake is especially popular for smallmouth bass, often considered some of the best in Tennessee, along with largemouth bass, spotted bass, crappie, walleye, and catfish. The lake’s structure—ranging from steep drop-offs and submerged points to creek channels and shallow flats—creates diverse fishing conditions in every season.

Spring and fall tend to be the most active times on the water, with bass moving into shallower areas, while summer fishing often shifts deeper during the day. In the cooler months, anglers can still find success targeting structure and ledges throughout the lake.

Where to Fish

Some of the most productive fishing areas on Center Hill Lake include the main channel, where deep water and ledges attract bass and walleye, as well as the many feeder creeks and coves that provide excellent habitat for crappie and panfish. Popular areas like the Caney Fork River arm offer trout fishing and cooler waters. Rock Island State Park offers fishing right by the falls and Edgar Evins State Park offers straightforward access.

Whether you’re casting from the shoreline, fishing from a kayak, or heading out on a boat, there are countless spots to explore across the lake.
