What You Need to Know Before You Go
- This is not a suitable trail for small kids or if you have problems traversing elevations.
- Waterproof hiking boots are essential. You will cross the creek multiple times — there is no way around it.
- This is dense woods. You will need bug spray, and you need to watch for snakes.
- The creek beds are really nice. Walk these too.
- The full trail is 5.3 miles. Plan for at least three hours and pace yourself on the return climb.
- Start early, especially in warmer months. The gorge is shaded and cool, but the exposed cliff tops get warm quickly.
- There are no facilities at the trailhead, so pack water and any snacks before you arrive.
- The cliff tops at the end are the payoff — take your time there before heading back.
